The first shop to answer gets the job

A broken spring or a door stuck halfway is not a problem a homeowner schedules for next week. It is a car trapped in the garage, a house that cannot be secured, and a customer calling down the list until somebody picks up. He does not compare reviews first. He books whoever answers.

We tested that the plain way. On Thursday night, October 15, 2026, we called nine East Valley garage door shops the way a customer with a stuck door would, and wrote down what happened. Seven of the nine gave the caller no way to book the job: four voicemails, an answering service that could only take a message, a phone menu that never reached a person, and a hold that nobody picked up. Read the full Thursday night test.

None of those shops lost the job because their work is bad. They lost it at the moment the phone rang. That moment is what this page is about.

What Maya does on every call

Maya is the AI front desk we set up for garage door shops. She is not a phone tree and not a message pad. She holds the conversation a good front desk would hold, every time, at 2 PM or 2 AM:

  • Answers in seconds, day or night, weekends and holidays included
  • Introduces herself as an AI front desk, so callers always know
  • Asks safety questions first, before scheduling questions
  • Collects the name, callback number, service address, and what the door is doing
  • Asks how urgent it is and whether the home can be secured
  • Books the job into a real window on your calendar, under your rules
  • Sends you a summary of the call right after it ends
  • Escalates to you when a caller needs a person, under rules set in advance

Maya is the working demo of the AutomationMD AI Front Desk, set up for the garage door trade. Your version is built around your shop: your hours, your service area, your prices where you approve them, and your booking rules.

Call Maya now and hear it yourself

Do not take this page's word for any of it. The demo line below is live. Call it the way your customer would, with a door that will not open, and put her through the same test those nine shops got.

Booking the job vs taking a message

A traditional answering service

  • A person answers, eventually, and takes a message
  • The message waits until morning, or reaches you as a note
  • The caller has no appointment and no reason to wait
  • You return the call hours later, into a cold trail
  • One of the nine shops we tested had exactly this setup. The agent was polite. She could not book anything that night

An AI front desk

  • The call is answered in seconds, every time
  • The conversation qualifies the job while the caller is engaged
  • The job is booked on your calendar before the call ends
  • You get a clean summary right away, not in the morning
  • The caller hangs up with an appointment, and stops calling down the list

A message tells you a job existed. A booking puts it on the schedule. That is the whole difference, and it is decided in the first ten seconds of the call.

The pilot: three garage door shops

The AI Front Desk is open to garage door shops first, on pilot terms, while we prove it trade by trade. Three shops get this round, so each setup gets built and tuned properly instead of rushed.

Pilot terms

$297/mo + $199 setup

For the first 90 days, then $497/mo. Month to month, no contract. You can leave when you want; the results are the retention plan.

What is included

  • An instant alert to you after every call
  • A monthly proof report: calls answered, jobs booked
  • Setup in one call, built around your shop

Questions garage door owners ask

Is Maya a real person?

No, and she does not pretend to be. Maya is an AI front desk, and she introduces herself as an AI at the start of every call. Callers always know who they are talking to. What they get is a front desk that answers in seconds, asks the right questions, and can book the job.

What does she ask a caller?

Safety comes first: a door off its track or a suspected broken spring is not a door anyone should keep forcing. Then the details a dispatcher actually needs: the name, the callback number, the service address, what the door is doing, and how urgent it is. Then she offers a booking window under your rules.

Can she give prices?

Only the prices you approve in advance, such as a published service call fee. She will not invent a repair quote for a job nobody has seen. If a caller pushes for an exact price, she says so plainly and books the visit instead.

What happens when a caller needs me, not a system?

The call follows the escalation rules we set together before launch. That can mean transferring the call to you, or flagging it urgent and sending you the details immediately, so the caller is never stranded with a machine.

What does the pilot cost, exactly?

The pilot is $297/mo plus a $199 setup fee for the first 90 days, then $497/mo. Month to month, no contract. It includes one location, answering around the clock, appointment booking, instant alerts to you after each call, and a monthly proof report. A fair use allowance of about 1,000 minutes a month applies; if you go over, nothing shuts off and there is no surprise bill. We talk first.

Which shops is the pilot for?

Garage door companies, one location, where the owner or a small crew is still the backup receptionist. Three shops get pilot terms this round, so the setup and tuning get real attention.

The next stuck door in the Valley is tonight.

Book a Pilot Fit Call. We will look at how your phones are answered today, what your callers actually need, and whether one of the three pilot spots fits your shop. If a simpler fix would serve you better, you will hear that instead.
